The Hyde Park Youth Symphony has its antecedents in the 1950s when the living room of Claire Despres Oppenheim became too small to contain the chamber ensemble of her string students. Today the organization has grown into two large ensembles, the String Orchestra and the Youth Symphony. These ensembles rehearse weekly and perform three concerts at the Reva & David Logan Center for the Arts. In addition to our season concerts, our students participate in many other performance opportunities, including events with the Negaunee Institute of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

Between FY 2014 & FY 2015 we saw a 73% growth in budget and a 53% growth in membership
